About the method
“Where love is great, much can be achieved”
In the 1940s, the Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki developed a method that is based on the same principles as learning a mother tongue: Just as the child learns to speak through the sound of their mother tongue, they learn their instrument. Lessons start from the age of 3.
Through their loving affection and encouragement, teachers and parents create an atmosphere that gives the child self-confidence and joy.
By learning an instrument using the native language method, a child develops sensitivity, empathy, discipline and endurance — so-called soft skills, which are more important today than ever.
The Suzuki Method is a philosophy whose main goal is to raise children to be satisfied and compassionate people by learning an instrument and surrounded by a positive, motivating and loving atmosphere.
The supportive environment, the social climate within a Suzuki class and the close cooperation between parents and teachers make music an integral part of a child's life.
The Suzuki Method does not aim to train professional musicians, but to use music to help children develop their entire personality.
This philosophy and the intensive involvement of parents are the main difference from traditional methods, which focus only on instrumental training.
Young children of three or four years of age initially learn the instrument without reading notes, but by ear - just as they first understand and speak their mother tongue and only then learn to read and write.
Listening to the pieces of music that the child will learn every day is an integral part of Suzuki lessons.
Enjoying learning and playing music is always in the foreground! Reading notes begins around the time they start school, so that the children also learn this skill in a playful and easy way.
From 0-3 years of age, babies and toddlers can attend SECE courses (Suzuki Early Childhood Education) — a gentle and loving introduction to the world of music.
Instrumental lessons ideally start at the age of 3-5 years and can be continued with SwissMusiKids until the age of 20.
Memory, concentration, learning techniques and absorption skills are trained in a playful yet focused way. The techniques for learning an instrument and the experience that every difficulty can be mastered are transferred to learning the subject matter. For these reasons, the method is also known as “talent education.”
The specific instructions on how to learn with pleasure yet efficiently shape the child's school career enormously.
What we offer
“When parents and children have fun together, unlimited abilities can develop.”
On the one hand, lessons take place in a small group of 3 children, which last between 45-75 minutes per week. Here we discover the violin together, learn new pieces, refine techniques and enjoy the music in an intimate setting.
In addition, every child attends group lessons, in which we are in a larger group with fun and games Strengthen the repertoire, learn music theory, practice for gigs and maintain friendships - together with like-minded people and with a great dose of humor!
The cost of the lesson is 180 CHF per month. For financially weaker families, there is support from our fund. SwissMusiKids is open to all families who want to learn using the Suzuki method!

How we interact with eachother:
Code of conduct
At 3-4 years of age, children are physically and coordinatively ready for the violin. At pre-school age, the child's brain is in an extremely receptive, malleable state. With early lessons, the child naturally learns how to use the violin and can experience and make music themselves with very simple means!
It's true: Daily practice is a prerequisite! However, the child will not see it as a burden: The tasks include lots of games, singing, listening to music, coloring, watching books, and playing with the violin. So that practice doesn't become a daily battle later on, which spoils the joy of music, it helps a lot if children get used to playing the violin early on as a natural part of the day.
An unlimited number of skills can develop when parents and child have fun together!
The child's brain is only able to name acoustic preferences, i.e. select an instrument by preference, from around the age of 8. That is why we encourage students at that age to listen to other instruments as well and to change them if necessary. The time for playing the violin is by no means lost, on the contrary: the child has already learned the decisive factor: to practice, to enjoy playing — and to listen! It then makes very rapid progress on the new instrument and can build directly on what it has learned.
Our experienced teachers will teach you exactly how to practice with your child. The two of you will learn together and we will provide you with timely and imaginative support in case of difficulties!
Playing the violin promotes empathy, concentration, intelligence, musicality, learning ability in your child and enables them to express their feelings through music. It plays with other children in groups and later in orchestras, finds a large social network, forms long-lasting friendships and experiences appreciation, sympathy and deep ties through the intensive relationship with the teacher.
Through detailed instructions on how to learn to play the violin with your child, the relationship with your child intensifies and gives you techniques, tools and tricks that make daily educational work easier!
